Fueling Women’s Health: Celebrating National Women’s Health and Fitness Day with Keto

Every year on the last Wednesday of September, women across the country come together, whether in person or in spirit, to celebrate National Women’s Health and Fitness Day. This year, it falls on September 24, and it’s more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a reminder that women’s health matters, and it deserves our focus, time, and dedication.

While fitness and health are universal, women face unique challenges. Hormonal shifts, reproductive health, bone density concerns, autoimmune disorders, stress, and the ever-present juggling act between careers, families, and personal goals all take a toll. National Women’s Health and Fitness Day encourages women to prioritize themselves, carving out space for wellness and strength because when women thrive, families and communities thrive too.

Why Keto Fits Perfectly into Women’s Health

Before I began my keto journey, I was so unhealthy. Weighing in at 242 pounds, I smoked like a chimney and did not exercise. As a reporter and author, I spend a lot of time at my desk and was in dire need of movement.

Because of keto, I was able to lose 98 pounds (and counting) and nearly two years ago, I finally kicked the smoking habit. I am now on a mission to help anyone who wants it shed pounds but more importantly, reap all of the benefits keto has to offer.

So how does keto fit into this celebration? Leading a keto lifestyle can be one of the most empowering choices women make for their health. Instead of relying on sugar spikes and crashes for energy, keto helps your body tap into its most efficient fuel source: fat. This isn’t just about weight loss, it’s about:

Hormone Balance: Stable blood sugar levels can support steadier hormone function, which is especially important during PMS, perimenopause, and menopause.

Sustained Energy: No more 3 p.m. crashes. Keto encourages mental clarity and steady energy throughout the day.

Metabolic Health: Reducing carbs helps lower the risk of insulin resistance, a precursor to type 2 diabetes, which disproportionately affects women.

Bone and Muscle Strength: A protein-rich, low-carb approach paired with regular fitness helps support bone density and lean muscle which are critical for women as they age.

Fitness + Nutrition = A Power Duo

On this Women’s Health and Fitness Day, consider how movement and nutrition work hand in hand. A brisk walk, yoga session, strength training, or dance class pair beautifully with the clean, sustaining fuel of keto meals. Your body performs better when it’s fueled with nutrient-dense foods like salmon, leafy greens, avocados, eggs, and nuts.

Celebrating YOU

Today isn’t about perfection or chasing a number on the scale; it’s about empowerment. Celebrate your body for all it does. Nourish it with real foods. Move it in ways that feel joyful. And most importantly, take this day as permission to prioritize yourself.

Because here’s the truth: women are often the caretakers, the multitaskers, the do-it-all forces of nature. But self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. Keto is one powerful way to reclaim energy, health, and balance so you can keep showing up for yourself and the people you love.

So, whether you’re new to keto or a seasoned pro, let National Women’s Health and Fitness Day be your nudge: fuel your body with intention, move with purpose, and celebrate the strong, resilient woman you are.

Your turn: How are you celebrating Women’s Health and Fitness Day? Maybe it’s with a keto-friendly meal prep, a long walk, or simply saying yes to yourself for once. Share your ideas! I’d love to hear them!
