Grab your favorite mustard and get ready to celebrate — it’s National Pretzel Day! Yup, there’s an entire day dedicated to those salty, twisty snacks we all love to munch on. Whether you’re team soft pretzel dipped in gooey cheese or team crunchy with a sprinkle of sea salt, pretzels have a way of stealing the snack spotlight.
National Pretzel Day, observed every April 26, honors the rich history and delicious versatility of this beloved snack. Pretzels have been a favorite treat for centuries, dating back to medieval Europe. In today’ world, pretzels are a staple at ballgames, fairs, and family gatherings.
But if you’re living a keto lifestyle, traditional pretzels might not fit your health goals. Don’t worry — you can still join in the celebration! I’m sharing a keto-friendly pretzel recipe that captures all the warm, savory goodness you love, without the carbs you don’t.
Let’s twist things up and make this National Pretzel Day deliciously keto!
These keto pretzels are soft, chewy, and easy to make! This recipe makes four servings and each one has 175 calories, 2 grams of net carbs, 11 grams of protein, and 18 grams of fat.
Ingredients:
1 cup of almond flour
1 Tbsp. of baking powder
1 oz. of softened cream cheese
1 1/2 cups of whole milk shredded mozzarella cheese
1 large egg
1 tsp. of salt
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 400F. Spray a baking sheet pan with cooking spray then cover with parchment paper. (the cooking spray helps to hold the parchment paper in place).
In a large mixing bowl, add the almond flour, baking powder, and salt then set aside.
Use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the shredded mozzarella cheese and cream cheese until they have melted then whisk together.
You can put the cheese mixture into a food processor to mix together with the egg and the dry ingredients or simply use a large spatula and your hands to blend the mixture well until you have created a thick dough.
Spray your hands with cooking spray or put some olive oil on your fingers so the dough will not stick to them. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces then form each one into ropes, shape each into a U, cross the ends over each other, and press them down to form a pretzel.
Place them onto your baking sheet. You can brush the tops of each one with an egg wash or butter to help them brown then sprinkle them with salt or sea salt (I prefer sea salt on top!), or some Everything Bagel Seasoning!
Bake the pretzels for about 8 minutes or until golden brown.
Remove the pretzels from the oven then serve warm with melted cheese or mustard, according to your preferences. Enjoy!
